2026 Oktoberfest with IEEE EMC & SAE Chicago
Agenda:
6:00 – 7:00pm Social Hour (includes Oktoberfest food and drinks)
7:00 – 7:30pm Chapter Announcements
7:30 – 8:15pm Technical Presentation
As part of the evening meeting, Nick Koeller (E3 Compliance) and Dr. Bogdan Adamczyk (GVSU) will be presenting at this year’s up coming Oktoberfest in Chicago!
Nick will be presenting:
Title: Diagnosis of Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) Emissions
Nick will present the process by which he analyzes SMPS RF Emissions using a combination of EMC chamber measurements and Near-field probing on the bench to determine appropriate countermeasures based on noise characteristics.
Prof. Bogdan Adamczyk will present:
Title: “Shielding – Radiation from Apertures”
An ideal shielded enclosure, would have an infinite conductivity, no apertures, seams, or cable penetrations, and would completely surround an electronic product. Practical shielding enclosures have finite conductivity, contain apertures, seams, or cable penetrations and cannot completely achieve such isolation. Apertures (slots or holes) reduce the effectiveness of the shield. Babinet’s principle, provides a way to analyze the radiation from slot antennas leading to the conclusion that apertures can be as effective radiators as antennas of the same dimensions.
Fundamentals of Applied EMC with HW Demonstrations (Class)
This 2-day in-person industry course is led by Dr. Bogdan Adamczyk and presented in conjunction with EMC Experts from E3 Compliance. The course consists of 10 unique, 90-minute training modules with live Hardware Demonstrations & Measurements that reinforce the concepts. It is intended for both practicing professionals and new engineers entering the field and is taught in an interactive classroom format.
